How to counter insider threats

An insider threat will use her/his authorized access, wittingly or unwittingly, to do harm to the security of the United States. This threat can include damage to the United States through espionage, terrorism, unauthorized disclosure of national security information, or through the loss or degradation of departmental resources or capabilities. Use these tips to counter insider threats in your organization.

Promote awareness

Ensure the workforce is prepared to recognize all forms of the threat

Establish a hub

Achieve an operational capability to handle pertinent information or activity

Train the workforce

Ensure personnel can respond to the threat effectively

Supporting through Reporting

Achieve positive outcomes by notifying programs of concerning behavior
